Taking the boss out

Uh oh! You just went and said "Want to get a drink?" to your boss. Now it's dawned on you that your regular smoky holes and techno-beat caverns are all that you know around town, and you need a good, non-threatening place to take your boss, and stat.

    Ravenous Pig - 4 1/2

    1234 N. Orange Ave. - Winter Park

Tip #1 for taking the boss out: make sure they have liquor. You may be fine on beer and wine alone, but your boss may be a boozehound. Ravenous Pig has a bunch of specialty cocktails they can whip up, as well as a sizable sampling of the finest beers and wines available. Plus the low music and swanky atmosphere will make you look more hip and haughty in the eyes of your higher up (though you might want to ask for that raise before you indulge your boss in a $12 pub burger).

    Finnhenry's - 4

39 N. Orange Ave. - Orlando (Downtown Orlando)

Tip #2: Smoking is (generally) a no-no. Some of the coolest bars can be set off limits by allowing smoking, but Finnhenry's is probably safe anyway. Their huge open space and monster smoke eaters make it a very breathable place to be, and their chic-urban atmosphere, sweet downtown location, and cozy seating make for an easy place to talk shop while drinking great beers and excellently mixed drinks for prices that are pretty good for downtown.

    Spice Modern Steakhouse - 4 1/2

    326 S. Park Ave. - Winter Park

Tip #3: If your boss takes you there first, you know it's a safe bet. My boss took me out to Spice once, so this has got to be a good place to grab a drink, right? Sure, it's a little small and loud, but they've got some good beers on tap and its Park Ave location is definitely ego-food to bosses everywhere. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but it just goes to show that sometimes asking where they want to go isn't a bad option.

    Eola Wine Company

    Eola Wine Company - 4 1/2

500 E. Central Blvd. - Orlando (Downtown Orlando)

Tip #4: If not liquor go for the wine. Ain't nothing like a little bit of high-falutin' snobbery to make anyone feel a bit more upper class. Eola Wine Company is an awesome place to take the boss since wine hits almost all people's snooty-bone. Grab a flight or two and watch the joy on their face as you nod in agreement when they say "Well, that one was okay, but this wine is by far the better one." You're agreeing with them, and now's the time to pop your proposal for snagging that cubicle by the window. Ha!
