This Warehouse District spot comes from a New Orleans native who’s been in the restaurant biz for decades, Joe Vuskovich. He got his start back in the 1970s in the Big Easy and eventually made his way to the Midwest, landing in Indianapolis and opening this no-frills Cajun-Creole quick-serve in 2001. He’s earned a few fans along the way: He now has four Yats outposts in Indianapolis and a fifth in West Lafayette, Ind. Look for a changing lineup of eight offerings, all under $8. (And if that’s not enough of a bargain for you, there’s more: Yats is BYOB.) Look for choices such as etouffee, jambalaya, and red beans and rice with smoked sausage. Desserts include a peanut butter-and-banana pie dubbed the “Elvis”. Expect perky background beats (Crescent City musicians such as Dr. John, The Neville Brothers and Harry Connick Jr.) and a colorful, casual seating area.
