Atmosphere:
Overshadowed by the grandeur of the Mall at Millenia, Bear Rock Café lies dormant across the street waiting to be discovered by a Wi-Fi hunter. Bear Rock provides the right décor for your cabin fever. There's no shortage of antler-wearing, mountain-climbing scenery.
For a Saturday night Bear Rock was very low-key: Perfect for actually getting work done, if that's your kind of thing, or surfing the Web. The sofas surrounding the fireplace provide more comfort, while a booth, as I prefer, gives more privacy.
Speed & Signal:
I logged onto the "Wifi- Bear Rock 54G" and got full wireless signal. The wait for our early dinner wasn't that long but I still had time to check my e-mail and catch up with the latest news.
Snacks:
Bear Rock serves lunch and dinner with a range of soups, salads, sandwiches and pizzetas. You order at the register and they'll call your name when it's ready.
My guest ventured for a pepperoni pizzeta ($7.49), which is nothing more than a fancy word for pizza. The hand-tossed flatbread crust was thin and crispy, but the overall taste didn't live up to the jazzy name.
I ordered a chicken salad croissant sandwich ($6.09), which came with a bag of ruffled Bear Rock Café potato chips. The chicken salad was not as flavorful as it could have been, but the sandwich itself was simple enough for a light dinner.
To satisfy my sweet tooth I had to buy a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie ($1.09). This ended the visit on a high note with the chewy cookie taste lingering in my mouth.
Satisfaction:
As national chain restaurants are popping up all over Orlando, I wouldn't doubt seeing another Bear Rock Café anytime soon. This is great news for the freeloading Internet users, but Bear Rock just can't compare to a local, independent coffeehouse.
Bear Rock Cafe is at 4696 Millenia Plaza Way in Orlando. Call 407-903-9533.
