Atmosphere:
Tatame is perhaps the oddest Wi-Fi spot I went to. Sure, it's a sophisticated, atmospheric joint that is likely to become one of my favorite spots to get a drink, but it doesn't really lend itself to playing on the computer. You can sit either at a table or on the floor (which is less indignant than it sounds) amid the Japanese art and trendy people that wander in, and feel at home and relaxed in this lounge. But you feel weird if you whip out a computer.
Speed & Signal:
Tatame offers an 802.11b connection called "Linksys," and, due to the atmosphere, only really comes in handy when you want to Wikipedia what sake really is made of (and find all cultural references made to it since the late '70s). There are a few power outlets available, and the dark lighting makes for great screen viewing, but sitting cross-legged with a laptop gets weary.
Snacks:
You know, there really is nothing like sitting with your computer and getting bombed on sake. The prices go from $6 for a small, two-shot carafe, up to $10. From there the prices start from $12 for a large and $35 for a bottle. As you get drunk you'll get hungry, which is where the plethora of appetizers (like chicken teriyaki and chicken satay) come in handy. The delicious sake and tasty meat on a skewer will probably make you wish you'd brought your friends rather than your laptop.
Satisfaction:
Tatame is a cool place, there's no denying it, but it may not be the best choice for tooling around on the internet. Oh, one more thing: don't fear the bathroom. Yes, it looks like the door is a clear window with a view to the toilet, but once you turn on the lights the window polarizes and no one can see in. Would I lie to you?
