FOOD: The best place for breakfast in Orlando

Waking up at a stifling 6 a.m. to bring a room mate to the airport would usually be torture, but today was a little different, only because our first destination was Bakery Plus, the family-owned and operated bakery on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Mills Avenue.

From the outside, it's nothing to look at; in fact, it could be labeled a hole-in-the-wall. Despite outward appearances, Bakery Plus is a hotspot for the schools down the street, white-collared businessmen on their way downtown or blue-collar electricians getting ready for their day. Throughout the five years I've been a fan of Bakery Plus, I've heard the rumors varying from "the owners and their family live in the back of the building" to "going out of business." Thankfully, it's still standing tall.

For $5, my roommate and I got two extra large drinks, a doughnut, and an egg 'n' cheese on a bagel, all made fresh-to-order. The booths are worn from the constant stream of students throughout the day, and no credit or debit cards are accepted, but the four family members who keep the place running are in no need of extra business. For the best breakfast (or lunch!) that can be paid with in nickels and dimes, you have to try the Bakery.
