The Dish
Key West Crossing has the perfect cure for South Florida heat: ice cream.

Serving Working Cow Homemade ice cream from a creamery based in St. Petersburg, this shop features 32 to 40 flavors such as fudgy mint swirl and toasted coconut as well as frozen yogurt and sugar-free varieties.

On our visit, we tried gator tracks, a rich combination of vanilla ice cream with a fudge swirl and mini peanut butter cups throughout; and whala whala monkey, an overly banana–flavored ice cream with chocolate chunks.

Though you can order smaller portions ($3.50 for one scoop; $4 for two), it's tempting to take home a pint ($5.50) once you find a favorite.

Into healthful eating? Try the fruit smoothies ($4.50). Blended with a milk–base, pre–ground fruit puree and ice, they provide an alternative sweet. Mix and match from the dozen flavors (mango, coconut, cappuccino, to name a few) to create a one–of–a–kind treat served in a 16–ounce cup.

We tried the strawberry and wild berry, an incredibly sweet yet tart combination that provides a fantastic brain freeze when eaten too fast.
