From First To Last, a hardcore rock band from Orlando, storms back into town on July 10 with the Warped Tour. After recently becoming the frontman for the band, Matt Good discussed the new direction and future of From First To Last with Metromix.
On their conception in Orlando
We were all kind of in different punk bands around the area. I moved to Orlando to live with Travis Richter, our guitarist. We met our drummer because he went to school at Full Sail. The rest of the members we just met through mutual friends and connections.
On their past with the Warped Tour
This is our fourth time on the Warped Tour. The first year we did the whole thing, then the second year we did half. The third year on it we were scheduled to do the whole thing but then we had to drop out because our singer at the time had vocal complications.
On becoming the frontman
It was kind of weird because when we started the band I always wanted to be the singer, but I just didn’t have the confidence that I could do it very well, at least I didn’t think so. I always thought that we needed a singer that runs around and gets in kids’ faces and stuff. I didn’t want to ditch playing guitar.
On the fan base’s response to the lineup change
It was one of those changes that just took people a while to get adjusted to, but it’s been a while now and people are all on board with us. Honestly, our shows on the Warped Tour are bigger than they’ve been at any point in time.
On leaving Capitol Records and being picked up by Suretone
We didn’t want to be on the label any more because we knew that they didn’t have any faith in us. Capitol Records was going through a transitional period so we saw it as an opportune time to move on and explore other possibilities. We got on the new label and they said, “do what you wanna do.” So we took some time to discover where we could find a niche with the lineup change.
On their love for Warped Tour
It’s the best tour you can do because pretty much every band you have ever toured with is on the tour. We kind of reinvent ourselves. Every day we meet people who are not only surprised but supportive of the fact that we’re still doing this. What other tour can you do that gets this attendance? Kids wait the whole year to get back to Warped Tour, the day after Warped Tour they start looking forward to the next one.
On their plans for after Warped Tour
We’re touring a lot. After this tour were heading out with Finch on a big tour and that should do pretty well because coming off this tour you usually have a pretty strong following. After that were touring the U.K. for 13 days. After that we’re open. Every day you’re making friends on this tour and finding new opportunities.
