The Caped Crusader has raked in over a billion box office dollars for his live-action biopics. Yet many Bat-fans (present company included), feel that none have ever done him justice like his animated exploits, especially the mid-’90s TV ’toon “Batman: The Animated Series.”
That's why the arrival of “Batman: Gotham Knight,” a series of animated Bat-shorts hitting DVD and Blu-ray on July 8, deserves its time to shine before the hotly anticipated “Batman Begins” sequel, “The Dark Knight,” hits theaters ten days later.
The six shorts included in the anthology take place between "Begins" and "Dark Knight," and in a nod to fans of “The Animated Series,” actor Kevin Conroy once again voices Bruce Wayne and his high-flying alter ego.
Much like the similarly-minded “Animatrix,” “Gotham” features a mix of comic book and comic book movie writers including Greg Rucka (“Wonder Woman,” “Gotham Central”), David Goyer (the “Blade” movies, “Batman Begins”) and Brian Azzarello (“100 Bullets,” “Batman: Broken City”) collaborating with high profile Japanese anime studios Production I.G. (“Ghost In The Shell”), Madhouse (“Death Note”) and Studio 4C (“The Animatrix”).
Fans and skeptics alike are invited to find out how cool the new movie actually looks with these images from "Batman: Gotham Knight."
