Top 5 date spots in Orlando

We all like to go to hot spots for dates, but sometimes we run out of fresh ideas. It's good to keep a few different places in mind just in case the weather rears it's ugly head (gotta love the unpredictability of the Florida forecast) or, you know, just in case you actually do get a chance to go on that second date. If you already have a significant other, even better. You can check these out with your main squeeze on any given evening to spice up the monotony of the work week.

1. Ceviche: This Spanish tapas bar on Church Street in downtown Orlando is named after a citrus marinated seafood dish popular in Latin America and Spain. Basically, the lemon juices used in this meal "cook" the raw fish (I highly recommend it if you like sushi). Okay, so fish aside, why is this place such a great date spot? Not only is the food amazing, but the romantic atmosphere fostered by the live Spanish guitar--their guitarist makes my night every time I visit--gives rise to cuddling, dancing, and yes, even kissing. While the performers take a break, popular latin music hits the speakers, so you and your partner can take the chance to dance salsa or merengue (and if you don't know how, the low lighting is perfect for faking it). The best time to visit this place is at night, because that's when the live music starts. It's also an upscale restaurant, so dress classy.

2. Thornton Park: So, this is a nice date spot because it gives you a lot to choose from (particularly in price as well as variety).  If you're not sure what your date might like--or if you can't even decide for yourself--you can choose from seafood, barbecue, Mexican, Italian, or American cuisine.  If all else fails, you can go to Hue, the bar/restaurant at the corner of Summerlin Avenue and Central Boulevard, or get some coffee at the Starbucks a few doors down. It's also close to Lake Eola, so if you've chosen to eat dinner at any one of the great restaurants, it's perfect for walking off a filling dinner. The great thing about Thornton Park is that it's so versatile. One week you can show up in casual attire, and the next week you can spice it up and dress to impress. It all depends on where you decide to visit within the area--be it day or night.

3. The Enzian: It's the indie theater in Maitland, right on Orlando Avenue/17-92. It's a great place to eat and watch a movie. You have the choice of popcorn or real food, and you can sit at the outside bar (called the Eden Bar) if you so choose. It's an innovative place for a rendezvous because it gives the classic date a new twist. The movies are usually pretty enjoyable independent films, and the comfortable feel of this theater lessens any stress typically associated with date-like situations (especially if it's a first date). Outside you can occasionally enjoy live music or a movie as well. Plus, if it's your idea, you get to score points for originality.

4. Winter Park Village: Also another great place to visit if you'd like to keep options open for your date. If indie flicks aren't your thing, you can experience the classic dinner and a movie by visiting the movie theater located in the center of Winter Park Village. The restaurants (P.F. Changs, The Cheesecake Factory, Brio, etc.) are not as varied in price range as Thornton park, but it's still a nice place to walk and talk while you're spending time with someone. Most places are on the exclusive side, so the best thing to do is to lean toward dressy casual when it comes to clothing. The theater will house a good number of new movies, so if you're in the mood to see a blockbuster film, you have that choice.

5. Park Avenue: This street is the heart of downtown Winter Park, and it is with good reason. The scenery down this avenue is beautiful day or night, not only because of the old brick roads, but because of the terrific park that borders the left side of the street. If dinner and a movie is not your thing, and you'd rather spend some time outdoors after breaking bread, this is the ideal place to take your date. The shops on the street are great for window shopping, and the wide array of restaurants are likely to please most tastes. The best thing about Park Avenue, however, is it's assortment of wine stores. The Wine Room and the Eola Wine Company (within blocks of each other)  serve foods that couple well with the wide selection of wine available. Park Avenue is a lovely place to visit anytime, but it's prettiest at night. The prices vary a little, but few establishments are on the economical side in this area.

Quick Picks:

1. Ceviche

2. Thornton Park: Hue, Tijuana Flats, Graffiti Junktion, Wildside Bar and Grill, Dexter's, Eola Wine Company

(located in both Thornton Park and Park Ave), Starbucks, Shari Sushi Lounge

3. Enzian Theater

4. Winter Park Village: The Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Changs, Brio, Seito Sushi, Johnny Rockets, Starbucks, Borders bookstore, Regal Winter Park Village Stadium (movie theater)

5. Park Avenue: The Wine Room, 310 Park South, Sakura Sushi, Luma on Park, Park Plaza Gardens, Briarpatch Restaurant, Café 118°, Cafe De France, Powerhouse Cafe
