The new Toy
Story Mania ride opens May 15 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and it’s
bringing a Block Party Bash that will have you dancing in the streets. Woody and company moved into the old “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” auditorium
with a 3-D interactive ride that resembles an old school carnival-style
shooting game. Of course, like anything else at Disney, the atmosphere is so
detailed, that even waiting in line is an experience (oh, yeah, and the line is
indoors with air-conditioning, a big plus for summer in
The entrance to the ride is
an oversized version of Andy’s room, with giant crayons, cards, board-game
pieces, plastic monkeys scattered about, and colorful murals scribbled on the
walls. The ride itself is a two-seater that moves through different levels of a
virtual 3-D shooting game, where you use a “gun” attached to your seat to hit
the different targets by pulling on a string in the back.
Toy Story Mania was
just the right length, and easy enough for kids, while still being challenging
and fun for adults. In fact, I’m sure that most of the people who ride it
will get better scores than I did.
