Inside: Destiny Nightclub
When you want to open a break-beats nightclub in a town as over-saturated with nightclubs as Orlando, you have to do something different. Take the owners of the new Destiny Nightclub at 7430 Universal Blvd. in Orlando: they know that attracting celebrities is a good bet because famous people attract crowds. So they crafted one of the ritziest VIP sections in the area; what's left, for those not willing to spend a fortune on a night of fun, is a fairly boring shadow of a nightclub.

Décor: First, you need to get inside:.Pay $10 at the door -- or whatever the cost may be on that particular night (make sure you're not wearing a T-shirt, jersey or sneakers -- you might get turned away). Hey, at Destiny, they've got standards. The interior is very large, boasting a cavernous ceiling and a huge, rectangular dance floor. Curiously, the club is so open that there's nowhere to hide if you want to seclude yourself with your friends. Well, there's the bathroom, but even that's got an attendant. There are flashing lights and fog machines, but there's no texture and nothing to look at if the place is dead (which it is until about 11:30 p.m.).

I didn't have the cash to go into the VIP section, but I hear it is decked out with flat-screen TVs, personal bottle service, beds, and a towering view over the dance floor. Reservations are available, but strap your chin to your head so you don't bruise it on the floor: the price ranges up to $2000.

The Bar: As a bartender told me, they don't really do that "specials" thing. With $5 beers and $6 bottom-shelf mixers, they could do well to start. They have a full bar with mostly premier-brand liquors, which means your wells gin and tonic is poured with Beefeater. On the plus side, Destiny has one of the strongest drink pours of any nightclub I've been to.

Sounds: Every so often Destiny brings in headlining DJs to spin the crowd into a frenzy. If you're a fan of hip-hop and beats, keep an eye out for who's headed to the club next. The sound system itself is loud and expansive but not overbearing and harsh.

Crowd: Young people who are terrified of being the first on the dance floor and who would love for more folks to show up and make a scene. If Destiny gives them a reason to, maybe they will.
