BARS: Notoberfest at McRaney's Tavern
Some people really get into the whole Oktoberfest thing. They bust out the lederhosen from the darkest recesses of the closet. Just when you thought you'd never see another genuine tyrolean hat in your life, well there's Dan breaking it out one more time. People massacre the German language, pretend to enjoy the taste of Beck's, and stuff themselves with sausage. As a German-American, I think this is a beautiful thing, but some, like our lovely Irish lass McRaney's Tavern, take a more secular approach.
Today starting at 5 p.m., McRaney's is hosting their Fall Beer Fest (NOT Oktoberfest, got it?!). Unlike their sister club, The Social, McRaney's isn't really known for live music, but they're busting out the amps tonight to present the stylings of The Kronics and reggae dub band Conquering One Sound System. I haven't heard of either of these bands before, but I'm not complaining because the event is free.
And that's not all. Get there before 10 p.m. and you'll get a free flight (that's, like, four 3 oz. glasses or something) of Warsteiner flavors. That's about as German as this thing is going to get, so take it or leave it, man.
This, along with Rum Fest, the beer thing at Stardust Video and Coffee, and any other number of events, is enough to make you regret having to wake up with a hangover tomorrow. But it is the season. Make Prince Ludwig (or another secular royal partier of your choosing) proud.
