The Do-Over
The laid-back house parties and grill-fests at Crane’s on Sunday afternoons are kind of like church, but with a better wine list.

The free weekly event brings together perhaps the most ethnically diverse crowd in town—from surfer dudes to Asian rocker chicks to local Latino homeboys—who come to grub on barbecue, guzzle PBRs and sangria, and dance under the hot afternoon sun.

But be forewarned: With no cover, an early start time (doors open at 2 p.m.), and a well-earned reputation for talented DJs, Crane’s gets packed fast. By 5 p.m., it’s sardine city. Although by sundown the outdoor dance area can feel a bit cramped, part of the charm of the Do-Over is throwing your hands in the ay-yer with half a dozen of your new best friends, many of whom are comfortable enough to get sweaty and spill their booze all over you. (I left with a half-carafe of sangria soaking the side of my shirt. Sexy.)

Don't be surprised to hear the DJ yell out, "If you ain’t got something spilled on your shirt, you ain’t partying hard enough!"

Amen.

The Basics

Meals Served:
For $8 at the door, you’ll be given a nifty meal ticket, which can be exchanged on the patio for a burger (normal or veggie), grilled chicken breast, or brat, plus a buffet of sides and fixins (though if you want to make friends, you might consider skipping the raw onions).
Alcohol:
The Do-Over’s beverage of choice? It’s a tie between cheap beer and the house sangria, Spain’s alcoholic answer to Kool-Aid, which is sold by the glass, half-carafe or carafe. At $25, we suggest springing for the full carafe—didn’t your mother tell you to hydrate when it’s hot out?
Admission Price:
There's no cover, but RSVP is mandatory. http://www.thedoover.net

Features

Worth Noting:
The Do-Over hosts some pretty sweet acts, like local underground DJ Peanut Butter Wolf. However, the promoter's policy is to keep guests a mystery each week. That means the only way clubbers know who's DJ-ing is to show up.
