DANCE: Whoa! Dancers dominate the Orlando Rep stage
Let’s talk about how the Sculpted Bodies (An Evening of Dance) press release totally lied to me.
The way it was written made me think it was going to be just another dance show, but no. I was blown away.
They said that the “unique combinations and diverse styles [of the dance pieces] will take your breath away.” And that was their modest way of saying that this concert is kick-ass. I was literally at the edge of my seat. I didn’t even want to get up during intermission! It was that good.
It was, honestly, one of the best performances thus far. Imagine if they didn’t have budget cuts. There’s a little synopsis of the creation process in the beginning of the playbook that makes it seem as though this was all they could afford to put together, you know, nothing fancy.
Umm? Are you kidding me?! The lighting effects were beyond cool. The selection of music and choreography was broad and fitting for everyone there. And the dance pieces, not to mention the dancers, were siiccckkk as fuhhhh.
There was a total of 14 pieces with an intermission in between for a total of almost 2 hours. Two hours that were totally worth it, not even kidding. I’m a dance junkie; I’ll give any dance show a shot at least once. So I know what I’m talking about when I say:
If you don’t go to this show, you are seriously missing out.
So in case you don’t know the details, here you go:
Sculpted Bodies (An Evening of Dance) will be performed April 23, 24, 25, and 26. All performances begin at 8:00 p.m. except for Sunday’s matinee at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for the Concert are $15.00. Reservations are recommended and available through the UCF Conservatory Theatre Box office by calling (407) 823-1500.
Oh, and they aren’t kidding about the reservations. The theatre was packed and parking was almost as bad as UCF garages. Almost. So get there early, or buy your tickets early.
I don’t care what you do, just go.
